Filmhuis Den Haag proudly presents ROOTS in Motion—an exciting initiative that shines a spotlight on short films and the talented filmmakers behind them.
Supporting local filmmakers is at the heart of what we do. In addition to the annual ROOTS Film Festival, we're expanding our efforts with ROOTS in Motion—a year-round platform dedicated to film screenings, dynamic discussions, Q&A sessions, and valuable networking opportunities.
We warmly invite you to be part of the inaugural ROOTS in Motion by sharing your creative work with us. Whether it's a short fiction film, documentary, or music video, we’re eager to see your submissions.

Requirements:
- Your film must have a duration of a maximum of 20 minutes
- You are based in- or around The Hague or Rotterdam

ROOTS in Motion #7
March 12 (submission deadline February 14)
The first themed edition of ROOTS in Motion (March 2026), connected to International Women’s Day, centers on girlhood and the many-layered female experience. Through diverse voices and perspectives, the program embraces nuance and contradiction, culminating in a curated screening and filmmaker Q&As.

June 11 (submission deadline May 16)

Audience Awards
At every edition of ROOTS in Motion, three films are screened—and it’s the audience who decides the favorite! Each edition, visitors vote for their top pick, and the winning film earns a special spot in our Best of ROOTS in Motion selection.
Winning isn’t just an honor—it’s an opportunity. All winning films automatically secure a place in the Best of ROOTS in Motion block at the ROOTS Film Festival in December, where they’ll be showcased to an even bigger audience.
