ROOTS in Motion #8

Supporting local filmmakers is at the heart of what we do. In addition to the annual ROOTS Film Festival, we're expanding our efforts with ROOTS in Motion—a year-round platform dedicated to film screenings, dynamic discussions, Q&A sessions, and valuable networking opportunities.

LINE UP:

Ik ben er nog (Koen van Driel, 2026): As Noor looks back on her memories of a once-happy relationship with Victor, a strange figure starts haunting her as her memories are losing their light.

Casting Memories Loose (Silvia Bovo, 2025): Can you mold yourself anew? Casting Memories Loose is a short essayistic documentary in which the filmmaker enters into dialogue with her father — who lived from age 8 to 18 in a plaster cast — weaving together personal retellings and analogue animation inspired by The Metamorphosis to ask whether one person's physical experience can ever find its way into another's.

Those who write, know (Sibrich Wijnia, 2025): What does the notebook hide? Why do we write in notebooks? What kind of secrets hide in the notes we never share? Three artists open up their notebooks for us and share a piece of their world with us.

weten wat je niet wist (Sophie Elizabeth Dixon, 2025): The Queen is always alone in her tower, waiting for her King. One day, he will come save her and show her the beautiful world from his stories. She can't wait! When a Farmer stumbles across her tower and takes her to a tea party, she discovers the outside world. Who do you become when you finally know what you never knew?

After the screenings, a Q&A will take place with the selected filmmakers, and the audience will be invited to vote for their favourite film of the evening. The winning film will be automatically selected for the Best of ROOTS in Motion programme at the ROOTS Film Festival 2026.
