ROOTS in Motion #7
Filmhuis Den Haag proudly presents ROOTS in Motion—an exciting initiative that shines a spotlight on short films and the talented filmmakers behind them.
Supporting local filmmakers is at the heart of what we do. In addition to the annual ROOTS Film Festival, we're expanding our efforts with ROOTS in Motion—a year-round platform dedicated to film screenings, dynamic discussions, Q&A sessions, and valuable networking opportunities.
We warmly invite you to be part of the inaugural ROOTS in Motion by sharing your creative work with us. Whether it's a short fiction film, documentary, or music video, we’re eager to see your submissions.
Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to immerse yourself in the vibrant world of local filmmaking. We can't wait to welcome you to ROOTS in Motion!

SUBMISSIONS OPEN NOW
Following the success of ROOTS Film Festival in December, we invite filmmakers to submit for a special themed edition taking place on 12 March, during our Girlhood month at Filmhuis Den Haag. In connection with International Women’s Day, this edition focuses on girlhood and the female experience in all its layers, contradictions, and nuances.
We are looking for short films that explore what it means to grow up, exist, and move through the world as a girl or woman. Narratives may focus on girlhood, womanhood, trans and non binary perspectives, or lived experiences that challenge or expand ideas of femininity.
Filmmakers from The Hague, Rotterdam, and surrounding areas can submit films with a maximum length of 20 minutes. A curated selection will be screened during a special film night, followed by Q and As with the filmmakers.
Deadline for submissions is 14 February and films can be submitted here.
