ROOTS in Motion #9
The last ROOTS in Motion of the year!
This September, Filmhuis Den Haag celebrates Dutch cinema with our BEST OF NL month, a special programme created alongside the Netherlands Film Festival. As part of this month dedicated to stories from and about the Netherlands, ROOTS in Motion returns with an edition exploring the many ways films can connect to Dutch identity, culture, and everyday life.
The following titles have been selected:
I Looked Outside and Saw Us All (Gradiva Verdeil Novara, Anna Lou Valentini, Lisa Wagemakers and Jelle Wernik): A variety of storefront mannequins look at, contemplate on, and talk about public space in Rotterdam.
Nur Geträumt (Sando Heijnen): In endless fields, a bored couple hunts for speed, lust, and adrenaline.
Toy-Gun (Emre Karabacak, Eycan Nural): Washed-up and broke detective Jesse van Moof becomes obsessed with tracking down the “Crazy Cowboy,” a homeless outlaw who ambushes delivery couriers and steals their food. But when he finally finds him, Jesse discovers that his supposed criminal mastermind is nothing more than a laughing, wordless drifter — forcing him to confront his own obsession with lost glory.
After the screenings, a Q&A will take place with the selected filmmakers, and the audience will be invited to vote for their favourite film of the evening. The winning film will be automatically selected for the Best of ROOTS in Motion programme at the ROOTS Film Festival 2026.
