ROOTS in Motion #9
submit your film before august 15th!
Submissions are open again for ROOTS in Motion #9! 🇳🇱
This September, Filmhuis Den Haag celebrates Dutch cinema with our BEST OF NL month, a special programme created alongside the Netherlands Film Festival. As part of this month dedicated to stories from and about the Netherlands, ROOTS in Motion returns with an edition exploring the many ways films can connect to Dutch identity, culture, and everyday life.
We invite filmmakers to submit short films that explore Dutch identity, culture, language, history, or everyday life from any perspective. Whether your film is spoken in Dutch, reflects on Dutch traditions, follows someone finding (or failing to find) their place in the Netherlands, or tells the story of Dutch heroes, antiheroes, communities, music, landscapes, or customs—we'd love to see it. Local, personal, critical, humorous, or unexpected interpretations are all welcome.
Filmmakers from The Hague, Rotterdam, and surrounding areas can submit films with a maximum length of 20 minutes. A curated selection will be screened on 10 September during ROOTS in Motion #9 at Filmhuis Den Haag, followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers. As always, the audience will vote for their favourite film of the night, which will automatically be selected for the BEST OF ROOTS IN MOTION programme at ROOTS Film Festival 2026.
Deadline for submissions is August 15.
