A Continent of Longing
A Pawlikowski Retrospective
To celebrate the release of Paweł Pawlikowski’s new film Fatherland, we’re bringing his captivating cinematic world back to the big screen. From November 12–18, Filmhuis Den Haag presents a retrospective dedicated to one of contemporary European cinema’s most distinctive voices, featuring Ida and Cold War.
Known for his striking black-and-white cinematography, restrained storytelling and deeply human characters, Pawlikowski crafts intimate portraits of people caught between personal longing and the forces of history. Set against a changing Europe, his films explore questions of identity, belonging and desire, tracing the complicated ways in which love and memory shape our lives. Discover two acclaimed works by a filmmaker whose haunting images and emotionally resonant stories linger long after the credits roll.
