The Village Next To Paradise - iAfrica

In a Somali fishing village, a father’s pursuit of stability mirrors the precarious balance between hope and hardship.

In a coastal Somali village, a widowed father tries to build a future for his children while navigating poverty and conflict. His struggles mirror the fragile balance of survival in a place marked by instability. A quietly powerful film about family, dignity, and hope.

The screening opens with an introduction by the Saaxib community. Somali snacks will be available in Studio A.

Saaxiib Community is founded by Kadigia, Saharla and Samiya, three Somali young women raised in the Netherlands. The word Saaxiib (pronounced ‘Saa-heeb’) means ‘friend’ in Somali. They created the community to offer a welcoming space where people can come together, support one another, and celebrate their own culture in an uplifting and inclusive environment.

With the screening of The Village Next Paradise, Saaxiib Community wants to highlight a realistic view of the coastal country to a wider audience, different than the one we often see in news headlines. The film shows a poignant and realistic portrayal of everyday life and the struggles that come with it.
