In four intertwined stories, mothers and daughters confront the gaps between heritage and identity.
Four Chinese-American women form a mahjong club in San Francisco, bonded by friendship and shared history. Through flashbacks, their immigrant mothers’ stories unfold, revealing sacrifices, secrets, and cultural conflicts. The daughters struggle with identity, love, and expectations in modern America. As they confront the past, they begin to understand their mothers more deeply.
