In Laikipia, Kenya, a battle over land and water is escalating between original pastoralist communities and large landowners. While these communities, who have practised nomadic herding for generations, fight to protect their way of life, landowners claim vast areas for conservation and ecotourism. Deep-rooted inequalities and postcolonial power structures fuel rising tensions, further exacerbated by political interests and corruption.
This film screening includes a short introduction by Angélique Mbundu, a video introduction by the director, and a post-screening talk hosted by Angélique.
In Laikipia, Kenia, escaleert een strijd om land en water tussen oorspronkelijke veehoudende gemeenschappen en grootgrondbezitters. Terwijl deze gemeenschappen, die al generaties lang leven van nomadische veeteelt, vechten voor hun bestaansrecht, claimen landeigenaren gronden voor natuurbehoud en ecotoerisme. Historische ongelijkheden en postkoloniale machtsstructuren zorgen voor groeiende spanningen, versterkt door politieke belangen en corruptie.
