Glued & Screwed #28

Themed Haunted Walls, the program features an exploration of (political) trauma through the ghosts of history’s past as they linger in the very places where it was written.

Edition 28 of Glued & Screwed is creeping right around the corner for your trusted dose of artists' moving image, curated by wysiwyg in The Hague. Themed Haunted Walls, the program contains four short films that explore (political) trauma through the ghosts of history’s past as they linger in the very places where it was written. Containing films from Diego Marcon, Cristian Dragan, and more, the evening will shed a haunting light on some of life’s darker corners.

Monelle (Italy, 2017, 14') by Diego Marcon

In Diego Marcon’s film MONELLE (2017), a number of young girls lie asleep between the architectural elements of the Casa del Fascio in Como — one of the most important modernist architecture designed by Giuseppe Terragni. Flashlights shine in the space, making the images appear for an instant — just the time necessary for the exposed frames to register with the viewer’s gaze before being plunged back into darkness. Around the sleeping bodies, some presences developed in CGI animation occupy the architecture and move around the space in obscure activities: nothing of their actions is visible to us, except in the fragments in which the image shows itself under the flashlight.

MONELLE is a circular film without any narrative or hierarchy, without a beginning or an end, and it circumscribes a place of promiscuity and ambiguity between the different formats used — 35mm and CGI animation — and the approaches of two opposites film attitudes, that is the structural cinema and the horror genre.

Ghosts. An itinerary through Bucharest (Romania, 2023, 7') by Cristian Dragan

Ghosts are all around us, and you just need the right pair of "eyes" to see them. This work explores some of the darker aspects of Bucharest's past by going back and documenting the places where some gruesome murders took place here. This itinerary through the city invites travelers to reflect on these dark histories and hopefully act as a catalyst in the process of coming to terms with these past events.

Spring Will Not Be Televised (Austria, 2020, 6') by Michael Heindl

Heindl offers privileged perspectives on Vienna and the Viennese by “spying” on private televisions through apartment building windows after dark. A simple idea, but its execution once again affirms the director’s sharp eye for offbeat detail.

GRANDMAMAUNTSISTERCAT (Netherlands, Poland, 2024, 23') by Zuza Banasińska

Created from archival materials from communist Poland, the film tells the story of a multispecies matriarchal family through the eyes of a child grappling with the reproduction of ideological and representational systems.

Glued & Screwed

Short experiment on the screen

Glued & Screwed is a project by screening platform wysiwyg in collaboration with Filmhuis Den Haag. This film evening serves as a platform for experimentation by (young) artists, designers and other makers working with the medium of film. The films and visual language that are missing in the regular film landscape are given a stage here and offer visitors challenging experiences.

During a discussion with the makers in the hall or during the drinks in the cafe there is space for dialogue and getting acquainted.
