A vibrant, surreal road movie about love, rebellion, and the lure of escape.

In Dakar, two young lovers dream of leaving Senegal for a glamorous life in Paris. As they scheme to escape, they confront the contradictions between tradition, modernity, and the illusions of postcolonial aspiration.
On October 1st, Touki Bouki will be introduced by Dr. Benjamin Fogarty-Valenzuela of Leiden University. Educated at Princeton, Dr. Fogarty-Valenzuela is a photographer and ethnographer with deep expertise in societies of the Global South.
In Dakar dromen twee jonge geliefden van een beter leven in Parijs. Terwijl ze plannen smeden om te ontsnappen, botsen hun ambities met traditie, moderniteit en de desillusies van een postkoloniaal bestaan.
Op 1 oktober wordt Touki Bouki ingeleid door Dr. Benjamin Fogarty-Valenzuela van de Universiteit Leiden. Dr. Fogarty-Valenzuela, opgeleid aan Princeton, is fotograaf en etnograaf met diepgaande expertise in samenlevingen van het Mondiale Zuiden.

Spanning 50 years of independent filmmaking from Chile, Senegal, and Colombia, these films explore the legacies of colonialism and the ongoing struggles for freedom and justice.
