A witty excavation of forgotten histories that reshapes both past and present.
Cheryl, a young Black lesbian filmmaker, sets out to uncover the history of a mysterious 1930s actress known only as the “Watermelon Woman.” As she digs through archives and conducts interviews, she uncovers hidden narratives while confronting her own desires. Blurring the line between fiction and reality, the film adopts a playful mockumentary style. It also interrogates racial representation and queer identity. Cheryl’s personal and artistic journeys become inseparable. A groundbreaking exploration of visibility and history.
After our screening on May 15th, we’ll host a banner-making session with The Hangout 070 where you can create your own protest sign for the Pride Parade. Whether you want to craft a catchy rhyme, use humor or irony, strike an emotional chord, make a bold call to action, or let strong visuals speak for themselves, the cardboard is yours. No need to bring anything, we’ll provide all the materials you need to design a banner that reflects. The workshop is free and will take place in Studio B. First come first serve!

Terwijl ze archieven doorspit en interviews afneemt, ontdekt ze niet alleen verborgen verhalen, maar ook haar eigen verlangens. De grens tussen fictie en werkelijkheid vervaagt in deze speelse mockumentary. Tegelijkertijd onderzoekt de film raciale representatie en queer identiteit. Cheryl’s persoonlijke en artistieke zoektocht raken steeds meer verweven. Een baanbrekend werk over zichtbaarheid en geschiedenis.
Na onze vertoning op 15 mei organiseren we samen met The Hangout 070 een banner-making sessie, waar je je eigen protestbord kunt maken voor de Pride Parade. Of je nu een pakkend rijm wilt bedenken, humor of ironie wilt gebruiken, een emotionele snaar wilt raken, een duidelijke oproep tot actie wilt doen, of juist sterke visuals voor zich wilt laten spreken: het karton is van jou. Je hoeft niets mee te nemen, wij zorgen voor alle materialen die je nodig hebt om een banner te ontwerpen die jouw boodschap weerspiegelt. De workshop is gratis en vindt plaats in Studio B.
