After their youngest child vanishes beside an isolated New England farm, a Puritan family begins to fear that something from the forest is hunting them.
In 1630s New England, William and his family are expelled from their Puritan settlement and move to an isolated farm beside a forest. Their youngest child disappears while playing outside, and the family begins to suspect that something in the surrounding woods is responsible. As fear and suspicion spread through the household, the family turns against one another. Thomasin, the eldest daughter, becomes increasingly entangled in the terrifying events unfolding around her.
In het New England van de jaren 1630 wordt William met zijn gezin uit hun puriteinse gemeenschap verbannen en vestigt het gezin zich op een afgelegen boerderij aan de rand van een bos. Hun jongste kind verdwijnt tijdens het spelen buiten, waarna de familie vermoedt dat iets uit het bos hiervoor verantwoordelijk is. Terwijl angst en wantrouwen zich binnen het gezin verspreiden, keren de familieleden zich steeds meer tegen elkaar. De oudste dochter Thomasin raakt ondertussen steeds verder verstrikt in de angstaanjagende gebeurtenissen om haar heen.
