The Birds i.s.m. Mauritshuis
Samen met het Mauritshuis vertonen we Hitchcock’s The Birds, een film die perfect aansluit bij de tentoonstelling BIRDS.
Op 13 en 15 februari vertonen we Alfred Hitchcocks The Birds in het kader van de tentoonstelling BIRDS – Curated by The Goldfinch & Simon Schama in het Mauritshuis. In deze bijzondere expo wordt op een frisse en verrassende manier de relatie tussen mens en vogel onder de loep genomen: hoe we naar vogels kijken, wat ze in ons oproepen en welke verhalen we aan ze verbinden.
Ook in The Birds speelt die relatie een hoofdrol. Hitchcock laat zien hoe iets alledaags — de aanwezigheid van vogels — plotseling een nieuwe (doodenge) betekenis kan krijgen. De film nodigt uit om anders te kijken, net als de tentoonstelling: nieuwsgieriger, aandachtiger, en met oog voor de onverwachte interacties tussen mens en natuur. Horrorfilm The Birds komt uit 1963 en staat ook nu nog als een huis.
On 13 and 15 February, we will be screening Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds as part of the exhibition BIRDS – Curated by The Goldfinch & Simon Schama at the Mauritshuis. This unique exhibition takes a fresh and surprising look at the relationship between humans and birds: how we view birds, what they evoke in us, and the stories we associate with them.
This relationship also plays a leading role in The Birds. Hitchcock shows how something everyday — the presence of birds — can suddenly take on a new (terrifying) meaning. The film invites us to look differently, just like the exhibition: with more curiosity, more attention, and an eye for the unexpected interactions between humans and nature. The horror film The Birds was released in 1963 and still stands strong today.
