The Adventure of Denchu-Kozo is a frantic cyberpunk horror sci-fi epic that feels like a fever dream. Shot on 8mm, the story follows Hikari, a teenage boy with an electricity pole attached to his back who invents a time machine and travels to the future. There, he finds swarms of punk vampires clouding the world in darkness as he attempts to save it. The film revels in an experimental editing and filming style that creates a unique world lingering between dream and nightmare. This charming yet disturbing tale is an early take on the cyberpunk aesthetic Shinya Tsukamoto would later become famous for with his film Tetsuo The Iron Man.
The Adventure of Denchu-Kozo is een razend cyberpunk horror-sci-fi-epos dat voelt als een koortsige droom. Geschoten op 8mm, volgt het verhaal Hikari, een tienerjongen met een elektriciteitspaal op zijn rug, die een tijdmachine uitvindt en naar de toekomst reist. Daar ontdekt hij zwermen punkvampiers die de wereld in duisternis hullen, terwijl hij probeert deze te redden. De film speelt met experimentele montage en filmmethoden, waardoor een unieke wereld ontstaat die balanceert tussen droom en nachtmerrie. Dit charmante maar verontrustende verhaal is een vroege verkenning van de cyberpunk-esthetiek waar Shinya Tsukamoto later bekend mee zou worden dankzij zijn film Tetsuo: The Iron Man.
