Zach Woods’ directorial debut The Accompanist follows the 8-year-old Emily who tells her school nurse that an accident caused her grandfather with dementia nearly killed her. Welfare agent Sarah, played by Aubrey Plaza, is sent to investigate the case and ends up sending Emily to the 70-year-old Sylvia, played by the fantastic Susan Sarandon. The Accompanist manages to blend heavy feelings, humor and human connection with remarkable ease.
Het regiedebuut van Zach Woods, The Accompanist, volgt de de achtjarige Emily die per ongeluk aan de schoolverpleegster vertelt dat ze door toedoen van haar demente opa bijna om het leven kwam. Maatschappelijk werkster Sarah, gespeeld door Aubrey Plaza, wordt gestuurd om de zaak te onderzoeken en zorgt er uiteindelijk voor dat Emily wordt ondergebracht bij een pleegouder, de 70-jarige Sylvia, gespeeld door de fantastische Susan Sarandon.
