When Tom, Susan, and Derek visit their grandfather for the first time since the loss of their beloved grandmother, they find the house quiet and their grandfather distant. Inspired by their grandmother, Susan takes on the role of storyteller, creating enchanting tales that bring warmth back into the home. The stories follow a helpful mysterious cat, a not-so-scary monster, and a brave flying man. Through their shared imagination, the family discovers lessons about courage, kindness, and finding light even in life’s darkest moments. Brought to life with stunning stop-motion animation, this heartwarming adaptation of Czech writer Arnošt Goldflam’s book shows how storytelling – like filmmaking itself – can build worlds, shape experiences, and guide audiences through emotion, wonder, and discovery.
Wanneer Tom, Susan en Derek voor het eerst hun grootvader bezoeken sinds het verlies van hun geliefde grootmoeder, treffen ze het huis stil en hun grootvader afstandelijk aan. Geïnspireerd door hun grootmoeder neemt Susan de rol van verteller op zich en creëert betoverende verhalen die warmte terugbrengen in huis. De verhalen volgen een behulpzame mysterieuze kat, een niet-zo-angstaanjagend monster en een moedige vliegende man. Door hun gedeelde verbeelding ontdekt het gezin lessen over moed, vriendelijkheid en het vinden van licht, zelfs in de donkerste momenten van het leven. Tot leven gebracht met verbluffende stop-motionanimatie, laat deze hartverwarmende bewerking van het boek van de Tsjechische schrijver Arnošt Goldflam zien hoe verhalen vertellen – net als filmmaken zelf – werelden kan bouwen, ervaringen kan vormen en het publiek kan begeleiden door emotie, verwondering en ontdekking.
