STUDIO F presents: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
A young bassist must defeat his new girlfriend’s seven evil exes in a video game-inspired battle of music, love and self-discovery.
Scott Pilgrim is a 22-year-old bassist dreaming of musical success with his band, Sex Bob-Omb. When he meets the mysterious Ramona Flowers, he falls for her immediately. To start a relationship with her, Scott must defeat her seven evil exes, each of whom challenges him to a spectacular fight. As Scott makes his way through these increasingly absurd confrontations, he must also confront his own insecurities and mistakes. Director Edgar Wright combines the worlds of video games, comic books and music in an energetic film where sound is an essential part of the storytelling. From the band's music to the sound effects accompanying each fight, the sound design gives the action its rhythm and intensity, bringing the film's unique world to life.
The screening will be preceded by a lecture on sound design by Karel Rebane, a sound designer, director and student at the Willem de Kooning Academy. He will explore how sound creates atmosphere, heightens emotions and guides our attention, often without us even noticing. The talk invites audiences to not only watch films, but to listen more actively and discover how sound shapes storytelling and the viewing experience.

Every year, thousands of students, from primary school to university, step inside Filmhuis Den Haag to take part in our educational programmes. In our cinema rooms and dedicated learning spaces, Studio B and C, they explore the world of film beyond the screen. Until now, these programmes have been exclusively for students. But that’s about to change.
Starting October '26, Filmhuis Den Haag launches Studio F, a new monthly programme opening up the world of film education to everyone. Each month, our education team invites special guests to join them in exploring a (modern) classic through a different theme or perspective. From filmmaking techniques and the creative process to the stories, ideas and questions that films bring to life, Studio F goes beyond the screening to discover what cinema can teach us about ourselves and the world around us.
Forget everything you think you know about (film) education. This is Studio F. Click here to find out more.
