Rana Eid
Panoptic - Rewire Festival
A sonic and visual descent into Beirut’s underground, confronting Lebanon’s war-torn past.

Lebanese filmmaker and sound designer Rana Eid has long worked with sound as a complex and vital component of worldbuilding, documenting, and understanding. Her directorial debut, 2017's Panoptic, charts a journey through her hometown of Beirut's underground in the wake of her father's passing. Combining the personal with the political, as part of a process of Eid mourning her father, the film probes Lebanon's troubled past, seeking to reconcile with the events of its 17-year-long civil war through a sonic testimony of its unique atmospheres and vast auditory sensations.
Arabic spoken, English subtitles.
