A local squash champion’s family shatters after his newborn daughter is diagnosed with a rare spinal disease. A decade later, a turn of events forces him to face his grief and reconnect with his daughter.
Tang Suk Yin, a local squash champion, lives a seemingly beautiful life with his wife, Elaine, as they prepare for the birth of their first child. But their joy quickly fades when their daughter, Tang Chi, is diagnosed with a rare spinal disease. Against all odds, Chi survives, but the pressure shatters the family, leaving Chi to the care of her grandmother. A decade later, when Chi’s grandmother can no longer care for her, Suk Yin must overcome his grief and reconnect with his daughter.
My First of May is a heartfelt tale of healing, where father and daughter navigate the pain of their past to rediscover love and connection. Starring the iconic Aaron KWOK, one of Hong Kong’s “Four Heavenly Kings,” the film tenderly explores family bonds, resilience, and the strength found in shared healing. It reminds us to treasure life’s small victories and find joy even in the most challenging times, offering hope and inspiration to face life’s storms.
Tang Suk Yin, een lokale squashkampioen, lijkt een perfect leven te leiden met zijn vrouw Elaine als ze hun eerste kind verwachten. Maar het geluk is van korte duur want hun dochter, Tang Chi, wordt geboren met een zeldzame ruggenmergaandoening. Tegen alle verwachtingen in blijft Chi leven maar onder de grote druk valt het gezin uiteen. Hierdoor is Chi overgeleverd aan de zorg van haar grootmoeder, maar als die niet langer voor haar kan zorgen, moet Suk Yin zijn verdriet onder ogen zien en na tien jaar de band met zijn dochter zien te herstellen.
Het ontroerende My First of May draait om heling waarbij vader en dochter hun pijn onder ogen zien om opnieuw verbinding en onvoorwaardelijke liefde te vinden. Met Aaron KWOK, een van Hongkongs ‘Vier Hemelse Koningen,’ in de hoofdrol, laat deze tedere film zien hoe vreugde en kracht zelfs in de zwaarste tijden te vinden zijn, en hoe we kleine overwinningen in het leven kunnen koesteren.
