Meneer L. - MtM On Tour
After losing his belongings and being mistaken for a refugee, an Asian tourist is swept into the surreal world of an Amsterdam asylum ship, where - unable to speak the language -he forges deep friendships through silence and shared humanity.
After falling asleep under a Dutch windmill and left behind by a group of fellow travelers, an Asian tourist wakes up completely lost and without all his belongings. Walking around Groningen, he is mistaken for an asylum seeker. Because he is not able to communicate his situation, before he knows it, he ends up in an asylum centre that is situated on a former cruise ship in Amsterdam.
Now stuck in the bureaucracy of his ‘asylum application’, he lives together and amongst the other residents of the ship. Despite the fact that he can only communicate non-verbally, he is still able to make friends with them. The refugees confide their stories with him and he is able to understand them on an emotional level. This hybrid film is inspired by true events and is developed with non-actors and refugees who play themselves on the ship where they actually reside.

Nadat hij in slaap is gevallen onder een Nederlandse windmolen en achtergelaten is door een groep medereizigers, wordt een Aziatische toerist volledig verdwaald en zonder al zijn bezittingen wakker. Terwijl hij door Groningen loopt, wordt de hij aangezien voor een asielzoeker. Omdat hij zijn situatie niet kan communiceren, komt hij voor hij het weet terecht in een asielcentrum dat gevestigd is op een voormalig cruiseschip in Amsterdam.
Nu hij vastzit in de bureaucratie van zijn ‘asielaanvraag’, leeft hij samen en tussen de andere bewoners van het schip. Ondanks het feit dat hij alleen non-verbaal kan communiceren, kan hij toch vriendschappen met hen sluiten. De vluchtelingen vertrouwen hem hun verhalen toe en hij kan ze op emotioneel niveau begrijpen. Deze hybride film is geïnspireerd op waargebeurde gebeurtenissen en is ontwikkeld met non-acteurs en vluchtelingen die zichzelf spelen op het schip waar ze daadwerkelijk verblijven.
