Little Forest - Korean Retrospective

A young woman returns to her rural childhood home, and with it, a life of farming and homemade meals. But with the passing of seasons, she finds that not all the answers can be found in the countryside.

A young woman returns to her childhood home in a traditional Korean village after unsuccessfully chasing her dreams in the big city. Upon arriving, she finds that her mother has disappeared, but her presence lingers in the “Little Forest” she left behind—a quiet legacy of care, love, and devotion, especially evident in the simple yet meaningful meals that once defined their home.

Gradually, a tender series of memories unfolds, in which cooking becomes a symbol of comfort, healing, and connection. She shares these moments with two childhood friends: one who also returned disillusioned from Seoul, and another who continues to pursue his dreams—this time within the boundaries of their familiar rural life.

On Tuesday 3 September, join us for the festive opening night of We Love Korean Cinema. We begin with Little Forest (2018), a gentle, heartfelt drama about returning home, rediscovering the rhythms of nature, and finding comfort in the simple things. The evening will open with a short introduction to the festival, setting the stage for what’s to come.

After the film, we invite you to stay for drinks in the foyer — a chance to connect, discuss, and raise a glass to the start of a program that celebrates the depth and beauty of Korean cinema.
