A playful and imaginative selection of Czech and Slovak animated shorts that takes us from starry skies and mysterious forests to disastrous family holidays and mythical worlds. With humour, wonder and a touch of melancholy, these films explore courage, loss, friendship and otherness – proving that even the smallest stories can open up big questions. Suitable for kids 6 years and older.
This program consists of the following films:
Hello Summer (Martin Smatana, Veronika Zacharovà, Czechia, Slovakia, France, 2024): A family sets off for their dream summer holiday, only to discover that paradise doesn’t always live up to the brochure.
Big Roc and Little Rookie: Racing Giant Bumblore (Jakub Kouřil, Czechia, 2026): Grumpy loner Big Roc meets cheerful Rookie, a little bird unlike any other. In a fairytale forest, they share adventures that always end well.
Animalies (Kateřina Karhánková, Marek Náprstek, Czechia, 2025): Six friends set off on an amazing adventure in the wilderness without their parents, armed with courage and excitement, but soon encounter a few bumps along the way.
STAR (Kristýna Kučerová, Daniel Geisseder, Czechia, 2025): One night, a little girl looks out of her window at the starry sky and discovers that the stars are disappearing. She decides to find out what is happening to them.
Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe! (Andrea Szelesová, Czechia, Slovakia, 2026): Yios, a lonely mythical boy whose head shines like the sun, struggles to make friends in the clouds. After he falls down to Earth, everything changes.
Writing Home (Eva Matejovičová, Czechia, 2024): A tiny bark beetle lives in the forest. When a fire breaks out, she gets separated from her family. Lost and alone, she has to face the world on her own.
Een speelse en fantasierijke selectie Tsjechische en Slowaakse animatiefilms die ons meeneemt van sterrenhemels en mysterieuze bossen naar rampzalige familievakanties en mythische werelden. Met humor, verwondering en een vleugje melancholie verkennen deze films thema’s als moed, verlies, vriendschap en anders-zijn – en bewijzen ze dat zelfs de kleinste verhalen grote vragen kunnen oproepen. Geschikt voor kinderen vanaf 6 jaar.

Eastern Neighbours Film Festival
The Eastern Neighbours Film Festival (ENFF) has been bringing audiences closer to the vibrant cinema of Eastern Europe since 2006. Each year at Filmhuis Den Haag, ENFF presents recent and powerful features, documentaries, shorts, and animations, often as Dutch premieres. The festival also offers panels, debates, and conversations with filmmakers and industry professionals.
