Improvised music meets experimental film

Image & Sound invites The Sonology Electroacoustic Ensemble
Image & Sound is a new program series by Filmhuis Den Haag that explores the deep synergy between film and music. Each edition brings together moving images and live, improvised sound in sometimes unexpected ways, creating a space for new emotions, sensations, and forms of excitement to emerge.
For this edition, we invite The Sonology Electroacoustic Ensemble (SEE) to perform a live improvisation to a curated selection of short films from the EYE Filmmuseum archive. The films have been carefully selected by Filmhuis Den Haag, but SEE has been given complete freedom to let the visuals inspire them, resulting in an original piece of music composed in the moment.
SEE was founded in 2009 at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague by composer and performer Richard Barrett. The ensemble consists of students, alumni, and staff from the Institute of Sonology, along with occasional guest artists. Together, they investigate the intersection of traditional and electronic instruments in an improvisational context, crossing boundaries of style and genre.
This program features films by experimental filmmakers such as Yasmijn Karhof, Ruud Monster, and Francien van Everdingen.
