Sofia (Emma Mackey) en haar moeder Rose (Fiona Shaw) brengen de zomer door in de kustplaats Almería, waar Rose door de charmante dokter Gómez wordt behandeld voor de onverklaarbare lichamelijke klachten die haar aan een rolstoel kluisteren. Tijdens hun verblijf onder de broeierige Spaanse zon wordt Sofia gehypnotiseerd door de aantrekkingskracht van de vrijzinnige Ingrid (Vicky Krieps).
Terwijl de temperatuur steeds hoger oploopt en Sofia sterker in haar schoenen begint te staan, wordt de band tussen haar en haar moeder steeds fragieler...
Gebaseerd op het gelijknamige boek van Deborah Levy, onderzoekt ‘Hot Milk’ de complexe dynamiek van identiteit, verlangen, afhankelijkheidsrelaties en de zoektocht naar bevrijding.
De cast bestaat uit Emma Mackey (Emily, Sex Education), Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve) en Vicky Krieps (Corsage, Phantom Thread). Hot Milk is het regiedebuut van Rebecca Lenkiewicz, die eerder de scenario's schreef voor The Salt Path, Ida, Disobedience en She Said.
De film ging in première in de competitie van het Filmfestival van Berlijn.
Sofia (Emma Mackey) and her mother Rose (Fiona Shaw) are spending the summer in the coastal town of Almería, where Rose is being treated by the charming Dr. Gómez for mysterious physical ailments that have left her confined to a wheelchair. Under the sweltering Spanish sun, Sofia becomes mesmerized by the allure of the free-spirited Ingrid (Vicky Krieps).
As the temperature continues to rise and Sofia begins to find her own footing, the bond between her and her mother grows increasingly fragile…
Based on the novel of the same name by Deborah Levy, Hot Milk explores the complex dynamics of identity, desire, dependency, and the search for liberation.
The cast features Emma Mackey (Emily, Sex Education), Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve), and Vicky Krieps (Corsage, Phantom Thread). Hot Milk marks the directorial debut of Rebecca Lenkiewicz, who previously wrote the screenplays for The Salt Path, Ida, Disobedience, and She Said.
The film premiered in competition at the Berlin Film Festival.
