Fuchzhou, a captivating journey through dreams and reality, follows Orest's quest to reunite with his beloved, set against the backdrop of extraordinary events and stunning locations.
A strong wind sweeps Orest, the son of a Ukrainian emigrant, back to his village and separates him from his beloved. Determined to reunite, he embarks on a journey through extraordinary events.
Set at the turn of the 20th century and blurring the line between dreams and reality, Fuchzhou takes place in locations ranging from the Dnipro River to Florida and the Bermuda Triangle.
After the screening we welcome with Hanna Datsiuk for a discussion about the film. Hanna is a Ukrainian film critic, co-curator of Kyiv Critics’ Week, lecturer of the course on cinema at the Cultural Project, and curator of the cinema hall at the SWEET.TV online platform.
Een sterke wind brengt Orest, de zoon van een Oekraïense emigrant, terug naar zijn dorp en scheidt hem van zijn geliefde. Vastbesloten om weer samen te komen, begint hij aan een reis door buitengewone gebeurtenissen.
Gesitueerd aan het einde van de 19e eeuw en met een vervaagde grens tussen dromen en werkelijkheid, speelt Fuchzhou zich af op locaties variërend van de Dnipro-rivier tot Florida en de Bermuda Driehoek.
Na de vertoning verwelkomen we Hanna Datsiuk voor een nagesprek over de film. Hanna is een Oekraïense filmcriticus, mede-curator van Kyiv Critics' Week, docent van de cursus cinema bij het Cultural Project en curator van de bioscoopzaal bij het online platform SWEET.TV.

Kyiv Critics' Week is one of Ukraine’s most prominent film festivals, showcasing the best of world cinema to local audiences, selected and presented by professional Ukrainian film critics.
Last year in Amsterdam, De Balie initiated a unique collaboration with the critics of KCW, resulting in a three-day event that brought highlights of Ukrainian cinema to the Netherlands. This year, under the name KCW x NL, the project is expanding to Rotterdam and The Hague, with the goal to include broader Dutch audiences and Ukrainian diaspora from different cities.

Kyiv Critics' Week is een van de meest prominente filmfestivals in Oekraïne, waar het beste van de wereldcinema aan het lokale publiek wordt getoond, geselecteerd en gepresenteerd door professionele Oekraïense filmcritici. Vorig jaar initieerde De Balie in Amsterdam een unieke samenwerking met de critici van KCW, met als resultaat een driedaags evenement dat hoogtepunten uit de Oekraïense cinema naar Nederland bracht. Dit jaar breidt het project onder de naam KCW x NL uit naar Rotterdam en Den Haag, met als doel een breder Nederlands publiek en Oekraïense diaspora uit verschillende steden te bereiken.
