At the foot of an imposing mountain in the French Alps stands a mountain hut—a place that serves not merely as a spot for hikers to sleep, but as a true sanctuary. Over the course of a year, three women take turns managing this refuge, cut off from the outside world. Their only occasional company comes in the form of passing hikers and rare birds. Amidst the silence of nature, they are forced to confront themselves, while also uncovering the turbulent history of the mountain. What initially feels like mere isolation gradually transforms into a form of freedom, allowing each woman to discover a part of herself that could not exist anywhere else.
This debut film by Brussels-based director Manon Coubia transports the viewer to the mountains through masterful 16mm cinematography and earned a Special Mention from the jury at the Berlinale.
