Everyone has their own Chimera, something they try to reach but can never find.

1980s, Riparbella on the Tyrrhenian Sea. Everyone has their own Chimera, something they try to reach but can never find. The grave robbers of the Tombaroli gang pursue easy riches by stealing Etruscan relics. Arthur joins them and tries to fill the void he feels since he lost his great love Beniamina. In an adventurous journey between the living and the dead, between forests and cities, between parties and loneliness, the fates of all those seeking the Chimera appear to be completely intertwined.

Prior to the screening, film070 will give a short introduction.

film070 about La Chimera
"On the 9th of April we will screen our first film of the year and for this special occasion we chose La Chimera (2023) by Alice Rohrwacher. Set in the 1980s the film follows the story of a British archeologist, Arthur, living in a small town on the Tyrrhenian Sea in Italy. Here Arthur lives with a community of 'tombaroli' and shares with them his gift for divining the locations of Etruscan tombs. With a very unique cast Alice Rohrwacher narrates the story of this community of ‘tombaroli’, their dynamics, flaws, desires and secrets.
The community that Alice Rohrwacher depicts inspired us for the opening of this year's program, hoping to be able to create our own between the seats of the Filmhuis. We welcome you to come and watch this masterpiece and afterwards to join us at the bar to mix and mingle over drinks. We will be thrilled to hear your suggestions for future screenings, your thoughts and wishes for the year to come."
