Ridley Scott
film070 presents: Alien
A claustrophobic sci-fi horror classic in which the crew of the Nostromo is hunted by a deadly extraterrestrial creature.
For our October screening Film070 is diving into the horror genre. We want to feel our hearts
beat fast, and the goosebumps on our skin, and the sweet adrenaline running through our
veins. This time we can have all that followed by our favorite activity — collective
overanalysing.
After searching for a film that can satisfy both these needs, we landed on Ridley Scott’s
Alien (1979), a sci-fi and horror classic hailed as one of the most influential films in cinema
history. In deep space, a commercial spaceship intercepts a mysterious transmission. The
crew, awakened from their cryosleep, sets out to investigate. Only to discover that some
dark corners of the universe should never be disturbed.
As horror nerds, we know that Alien is about much more than the title suggests. We invited
Assistant Professor and researcher of horror cinema, Dr. Rhys Steven Jones, to be our
guide through the film with an introduction and a short post-screening lecture, where we’ll go
into the psychoanalytic, feminist and Marxist critiques lurking underneath the film’s surface.
After the lecture, and as per usual, everyone is welcome to grab a drink and stick around to
discuss the film and the lecture!
Wednesday October 14th, 19:00, Zaal 5. Join us for this (space)ride!
