Geheel tegen de verwachtingen van zijn familie in, begint de zestienjarige Enzo (nieuw talent Eloy Pohu) niet aan een universitaire studie maar aan de opleiding tot metselaar. Hij bakt er niks van, maar voelt zich op de bouwplaats meer thuis dan in de chique villa waar hij opgroeit. Als zijn charismatische collega Vlad hem meeneemt in deze andere wereld, lijkt dit bestaan Enzo veel waardevoller dan dat van zijn welgestelde familie. Hierdoor nemen de spanningen thuis toe. Enzo voelt steeds meer druk om te voldoen aan de verwachting van zijn ouders (Élodie Bouchez en Pierfrancesco Favino).
Enzo was de openingsfilm van Quinzaine des Cinéastes op het filmfestival van Cannes. Cantet en Campillo schreven samen het scenario voor Enzo, Cantet’s laatste film voor hij overleed. ‘It is another powerful, absorbing picture from Campillo and a fitting swan song for Laurent Cantet’

Against the expectations of his family, sixteen-year-old Enzo (newcomer Eloy Pohu) does not pursue a university degree but instead enrolls in masonry training. He proves no good at it, yet feels more at home on the construction site than in the chic villa where he was raised. When his charismatic colleague Vlad introduces him to this other world, this life seems far more valuable to Enzo than that of his affluent family—causing tensions at home to rise. Enzo increasingly feels the pressure to live up to the expectations of his parents (Élodie Bouchez and Pierfrancesco Favino).
Enzo was the opening film of Quinzaine des Cinéastes at the Cannes Film Festival. Cantet and Campillo co-wrote the screenplay for Enzo, Cantet’s final film before his passing. “It is another powerful, absorbing picture from Campillo and a fitting swan song for Laurent Cantet.”
