Eat Drink Man Woman - Lunar New Year

A retired master chef and his three unmarried daughters navigate love, loss, and personal growth through weekly Sunday feasts that reveal their unspoken conflicts and evolving lives.

In Taipei, a retired master chef, Mr. Chu, lives with his three unmarried daughters, each facing personal struggles and life changes. Jia-Jen, the eldest, is a schoolteacher grappling with heartbreak and religious devotion. Jia-Chien, the middle daughter, is a career-driven executive torn between ambition and family ties, while the youngest, Jia-Ning, experiences the joys and challenges of first love. Every Sunday, the family gathers for a lavish homemade feast, a tradition that serves as both a bond and a battleground for their unspoken conflicts and evolving lives. As secrets come to light and romantic entanglements unfold, the family navigates love, loss, and new beginnings in unexpected ways.

On January 31st, you can watch Eat Drink Man Woman in hall 2. Afterward, you can join karaoke in screening room 6. Be quick, as space is limited in screening room 6.

Our Karaoke evening is made possible by Eastern Playgrounds. Eastern Playgrounds is an Amsterdam-based Queer/Asian-led collective. Through hosting community events with Asian board games, mahjong workshops and karaoke sessions, they create space for connection and belonging through playfulness and joy. For some, their events are an introduction to a queer Asian community in Amsterdam or opened a new world; for others, they spark feelings of nostalgia. Born from a desire for joy that centers Asian identities, their priority as a queer/Asian-centered initiative is to carve out a space for a community to exist and grow while celebrating individual identities that never neatly fit into one way of being Asian.
