Balancing school, odd jobs, violence, and displacement, he pursues his dream of becoming a musician through a life-changing music competition. The film premiered at the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival, with lead-actor Bradley Fiomona Dembeasset winning the section’s prize for Best Actor.
Congo Boy volgt de zeventienjarige Robert, een vluchteling in de Centraal-Afrikaanse Republiek, die voor zijn vier broers en zussen zorgt nadat zijn ouders gevangen zijn gezet. Terwijl hij school, bijbaantjes, geweld en ontheemding moet trotseren, streeft hij zijn droom na om muzikant te worden via een levensveranderende muziekwedstrijd. Deze film ging in première in de Un Certain Regard sectie van het Cannes Film Festival, waarin hoofdrolspeler Bradley Fiomona Dembeasset de prijs voor Beste Acteur won.
