Blade - Black Achievement Month
A half-vampire hunter takes on a rising vampire leader whose quest for ultimate power threatens to unleash an ancient blood god.
Half-human and half-vampire, Blade has dedicated his life to hunting the creatures that killed his mother. When he discovers that the ambitious vampire Deacon Frost is planning to summon the ancient blood god La Magra, Blade becomes the key to a ritual that could give Frost unprecedented power. With hematologist Karen Jenson caught in the middle, Blade must confront Frost and the vampire society he has spent his life fighting.
On October 19th, Amsterdam collective Coloured People Time brings Welcome to Afrofuturism to Filmhuis Den Haag, exploring Black empowerment through film, electronic music and culture. Together, we journey through space and time, from Sun Ra’s cosmic jazz and the myth of Drexciya to the cyberpunk vampire world of Blade. Expect an audiovisual exploration of Afrofuturism before the screening of Blade.
Blade is half mens en half vampier en heeft zijn leven gewijd aan het jagen op de wezens die zijn moeder doodden. Wanneer hij ontdekt dat de ambitieuze vampier Deacon Frost de oude bloedgod La Magra wil oproepen, blijkt Blade zelf de sleutel tot een ritueel dat Frost ongekende macht kan geven. Ook hematoloog Karen Jenson raakt bij de strijd betrokken. Terwijl Frost zijn plan steeds verder uitvoert, moet Blade de confrontatie aangaan met de vampierwereld die hij zijn hele leven heeft bestreden.
Op 19 oktober brengt het Amsterdamse collectief Coloured People Time Welcome to Afrofuturism naar Filmhuis Den Haag, een programma waarin zwarte emancipatie wordt verkend aan de hand van film, elektronische muziek en cultuur. Samen reizen we door ruimte en tijd, van de kosmische jazz van Sun Ra en de mythe van Drexciya tot de cyberpunk-vampierwereld van Blade. Voorafgaand aan de vertoning van Blade kun je een audiovisuele verkenning van Afrofuturisme verwachten.
Archives of Tomorrow - Black Achievement Month
This October, Filmhuis Den Haag and Black Achievement Month presents Archives of Tomorrow, a programme exploring Afrofuturism and the many ways Black artists imagine, challenge and reshape the future. Bringing together films that range from cosmic jazz and cyberpunk to ancestral worlds, comic book adaptations and surreal musical time travel, the programme explores how film can open up new possibilities for seeing the present differently. Rather than offering a single definition of Afrofuturism, the programme celebrates its diverse forms, histories and visions, and the role of Black creativity in shaping possible futures.
