Sociaal-realistisch drama over een jonge Londense reggae-DJ van Jamaicaanse afkomst die droomt van succes met zijn sound system. Terwijl hij zich voorbereidt op een belangrijke wedstrijd, krijgt hij te maken met racisme, politiegeweld en spanningen op zijn werk en in zijn buurt. Muziek vormt voor hem een uitlaatklep en een bron van identiteit. Tegelijkertijd wordt hij geconfronteerd met de harde realiteit van het leven als jonge zwarte Brit in het Thatcher-tijdperk. De film schetst een rauw portret van cultuur, verzet en gemeenschap.
Voorafgaand aan de film zullen Ghamte Schmidt en DJ Garnett de film introduceren. Na afloop nodigen we DJ Garnett uit voor live muziek in het café.
A socially conscious drama about a young reggae DJ of Jamaican heritage in London who dreams of success with his sound system. As he prepares for a major competition, he faces racism, police harassment, and tensions at work and in his neighborhood. Music becomes both an outlet and a source of identity. At the same time, he must confront the realities of being a young Black Brit in Thatcher-era Britain. The film offers a vivid portrait of culture, resistance, and community.
