Augure - Black Achievement Month
A homecoming turns into a reckoning when four people accused of sorcery join forces to escape the destinies imposed upon them.
After fifteen years away, Koffi returns to the Democratic Republic of Congo to introduce his pregnant wife to his family. Instead of a warm homecoming, he is branded a sorcerer by his relatives and confronted with the beliefs that have shaped his life. He crosses paths with three others who are similarly trapped by accusations and expectations. Together, they seek to break free from the roles imposed on them and find a different future.
Na vijftien jaar keert Koffi terug naar de Democratische Republiek Congo om zijn zwangere vrouw aan zijn familie voor te stellen. In plaats van een warm weerzien wordt hij door zijn familie als tovenaar beschouwd en geconfronteerd met de overtuigingen die zijn leven hebben bepaald. Hij ontmoet drie anderen die eveneens gevangen zitten in beschuldigingen en verwachtingen. Samen proberen ze zich los te maken van de rollen die hun zijn opgelegd en een andere toekomst te vinden.
Archives of Tomorrow - Black Achievement Month
This October, Filmhuis Den Haag and Black Achievement Month presents Archives of Tomorrow, a programme exploring Afrofuturism and the many ways Black artists imagine, challenge and reshape the future. Bringing together films that range from cosmic jazz and cyberpunk to ancestral worlds, comic book adaptations and surreal musical time travel, the programme explores how film can open up new possibilities for seeing the present differently. Rather than offering a single definition of Afrofuturism, the programme celebrates its diverse forms, histories and visions, and the role of Black creativity in shaping possible futures.
