The Iron Giant - Nostalgia Ultra
Hartverwarmend verhaal over een vriendschap tussen een jonge jongen en een gigantische robot die leert wat het betekent om menselijk te zijn.
The Iron Giant is set in 1957 and follows the story of Hogarth Hughes, a lonely young boy living in a small coastal town in Maine. One day, Hogarth discovers a gigantic, mysterious metal robot that has crash-landed from space. Despite its intimidating appearance, the robot turns out to be gentle and curious. Hogarth decides to keep the Iron Giant a secret and befriends the robot, teaching it about humanity and morality. However, as word of the Iron Giant spreads, government agents become suspicious and begin hunting it, fearing it to be a dangerous weapon. In a climactic showdown, the Iron Giant must choose between being a destructive force or a hero, ultimately demonstrating the power of self-sacrifice and the ability to choose one's own destiny.

The Iron Giant speelt zich af in 1957 en volgt het verhaal van Hogarth Hughes, een eenzame jonge jongen die in een klein kustplaatsje in Maine woont. Op een dag ontdekt Hogarth een gigantische, mysterieuze metalen robot die uit de ruimte lijkt te zijn neergestort. Ondanks zijn angstaanjagende uiterlijk, blijkt de robot vriendelijk en nieuwsgierig te zijn. Hogarth besluit de Iron Giant geheim te houden en wordt bevriend met de robot, waarbij hij hem leert over menselijkheid en moraal. Maar naarmate het nieuws over de Iron Giant zich verspreidt, worden overheidsagenten wantrouwig en beginnen ze op de robot te jagen, uit angst dat het een gevaarlijk wapen is. In een spannende climax moet de Iron Giant kiezen tussen vernietiging en heldendom, waarbij hij uiteindelijk laat zien wat zelfopoffering betekent en dat iedereen zijn eigen lot kan kiezen.

As an extension of our Rooftoppers Open-Air Cinema, we are showcasing three films in September during "Nostalgia Ultra," each evoking nostalgia in its own unique way, just like the Rooftoppers films. These are films that might stir nostalgia because you’ve seen them many times before or because they remind you of a time you feel nostalgic for.
