Slot 2: Letters to the Past consists of the following films:
Zeevlam (Joris van den Einden) - Zeevlam is the letter the author writes to his mother, Brenda, echoing a letter she wrote to him as a baby to capture a fleeting moment. During his mother’s illness and absence from the sea, the film reflects on their shared connection to the coast—a timeless place where everything returns and flows away. Dutch spoken. 8 minutes.
Her Forest, Tearless as Stone (Enrico Carpi) - In this short film, the filmmaker revisits the landscape of his grandmother's youth, where her resilience and gratitude for life were forged despite the loss of both parents and years of hardship. Through her memories and the unchanged natural surroundings, he explores the enduring strength and mystery rooted in her past. Italian spoken. 9 minutes.
Lamparilla (Anabel Pérez Lubián) - Lamparilla, is an attempt to visualise the memories stored in an apartment. Remembering the mundane, the artists focuses on the objects, as they contain a residue of our memories. Returning to La Habana Vieja, Cuba, she revisits and questions her experience of displacement. Spanish spoken. 8 minutes.
All films will be shown with English subtitles. The screening in Zaal 5 includes a Q&A with the makers, moderated by Filmhuis Den Haag.

Zeevlam (Joris van den Einden) - Zeevlam is de brief die de maker schrijft aan zijn moeder, Brenda, die echoot wat zij aan hem schreef toen hij een baby was om een vluchtig moment vast te leggen. Tijdens de ziekte van zijn moeder en haar afwezigheid van de zee, reflecteert de film op hun gedeelde verbinding met de kust—een tijdloze plek waar alles terugkomt en wegvloeit. Her Forest, Tearless as Stone (Enrico Carpi) - In deze korte film herbezoekt de filmmaker het landschap van de jeugd van zijn grootmoeder, waar haar veerkracht en dankbaarheid voor het leven werden gevormd ondanks het verlies van beide ouders en jaren van ontberingen. Door haar herinneringen en het onveranderde natuurlijke landschap onderzoekt hij de blijvende kracht en mysterie die geworteld zijn in haar verleden. Italiaans gesproken. 9 minuten.
Lamparilla (Anabel Pérez Lubián) - Lamparilla is een poging om de herinneringen op te roepen die opgeslagen zijn in een appartement. Het herinnert zich het alledaagse, waarbij de kunstenaar zich richt op de objecten, aangezien deze een restant van onze herinneringen bevatten. Terug in La Habana Vieja, Cuba, herbezoekt ze en bevraagt ze haar ervaring van verdrijving. Spaans gesproken. 8 minuten.
Alle films worden vertoond met Engelse ondertiteling. De vertoning in Zaal 5 wordt gevolgd door een Q&A met de makers, gemodereerd door Filmhuis Den Haag.
