Serbian maverick director Mladen Djordjevic (The Life and Death of a Porno Gang) returns with another uncompromising, wildly imaginative and transgressive mix of genre and social drama. In a forgotten factory town, a group of ex-workers, led by fearless, middle-aged Ceca, are struggling to find hope and justice after a tragic fire and corrupt privatisation have robbed them of their jobs, loved ones and dignity. A former convict appears to offer a way out through ancient magic rituals, immersing them in the otherworldly and striking a relationship with Ceca where the sexual mixes with the religious and supernatural. Djordjevic once again brings people from the margins to the forth and gives them a voice, denouncing destructive policies of the Serbian government and questioning the role of spirituality and its flipside in the lives of ordinary people who have been downtrodden for decades. An immersively dark film infused with black humour, mixing established actors with non-professionals in a meticulously designed, decrepit setting that itself plays a key role.

De Servische onafhankelijke filmmaker Mladen Djordjevic (The Life and Death of a Porno Gang) keert terug met een nieuw compromisloos, wild fantasierijk en transgressief mengsel van genre en sociaal drama. In een vergeten fabrieksstad vecht een groep ex-arbeiders, onder leiding van de onverschrokken, middelbare Ceca, om hoop en gerechtigheid te vinden na een tragische brand en een corrupte privatisering die hen van hun banen, geliefden en waardigheid heeft beroofd. Een voormalige veroordeelde verschijnt om een uitweg te bieden via oude magische rituelen, waarbij hij hen onderdompelt in het andere wereld en een relatie met Ceca aangaat waarin het seksuele zich vermengt met het religieuze en het bovennatuurlijke. Djordjevic brengt opnieuw mensen uit de marge naar voren en geeft hen een stem, waarbij hij de destructieve beleidsmaatregelen van de Servische regering aan de kaak stelt en de rol van spiritualiteit en de keerzijde daarvan in het leven van gewone mensen die decennialang onderdrukt zijn, ter discussie stelt. Een indringende, duistere film doordrenkt met zwarte humor, die gevestigde acteurs mengt met niet-professionals in een zorgvuldig ontworpen, vervallen setting die zelf een sleutelrol speelt.
