A man is stranded on a deserted tropical island after a violent storm leaves him shipwrecked. As he struggles to survive, he attempts to escape by building a raft, but each effort is thwarted by a mysterious large red turtle. Frustrated and desperate, the man confronts the creature, only to witness a magical transformation that changes the course of his life.
The story unfolds without dialogue, relying on stunning animation and a minimalist narrative to explore themes of isolation, nature, and the cycle of life. Over time, the man forms an unexpected bond with the island and its inhabitants, leading to a profound journey of survival, love, and acceptance.
Een man strandt op een verlaten tropisch eiland nadat een hevige storm zijn schipbreuk veroorzaakt. Terwijl hij worstelt om te overleven, probeert hij te ontsnappen door een vlot te bouwen, maar elke poging wordt gedwarsboomd door een mysterieuze grote rode schildpad. Gefrustreerd en wanhopig confronteert de man het wezen, waarna hij getuige is van een magische transformatie die de loop van zijn leven verandert.
Het verhaal ontvouwt zich zonder dialoog, waarbij prachtige animatie en een minimalistische vertelling worden gebruikt om thema's van eenzaamheid, natuur en de cyclus van het leven te verkennen. In de loop van de tijd ontwikkelt de man een onverwachte band met het eiland en zijn bewoners, wat leidt tot een diepgaande reis van overleven, liefde en acceptatie.

What followed was an intensive 2.5-year production period, during which the creative process was supervised by none other than Ghibli icon and Oscar nominee Isao Takahata (The Grave of the Fireflies, The Tale of the Princess Kaguya).
