My Neighbor Totoro - The Wondrous World of Studio Ghibli
My Neighbor Totoro is a heartwarming tale of childhood wonder and friendship, where two sisters befriend magical forest spirits and find comfort amidst life's challenges.
Satsuki and Mei, who move to the countryside with their father to be closer to their ailing mother, who is in a nearby hospital. As they explore their new surroundings, the sisters encounter magical forest spirits, including the gentle and giant creature Totoro.
Totoro and his companions introduce the girls to a world of wonder and adventure, from riding on a magical Catbus to growing giant trees. Through their experiences with Totoro, Satsuki and Mei find comfort and hope, even as they cope with their mother’s illness.
Before the screening on October 5th there will be a lecture about Studio Ghibli by film scholar Rudi de Boer.
Satsuki en Mei, die met hun vader naar het platteland verhuizen om dichter bij hun zieke moeder te zijn, die in een nabijgelegen ziekenhuis ligt. Terwijl ze hun nieuwe omgeving verkennen, komen de zusjes magische bosgeesten tegen, waaronder het vriendelijke en reusachtige wezen Totoro.
Totoro en zijn metgezellen laten de meisjes kennismaken met een wereld vol wonderen en avonturen, van het rijden op een magische Catbus tot het groeien van reusachtige bomen. Door hun ervaringen met Totoro vinden Satsuki en Mei troost en hoop, zelfs als ze te maken krijgen met de ziekte van hun moeder.
Voorafgaand aan de vertoning op 5 oktober is er een lezing over Studio Ghibli door filmwetenschapper Rudi de Boer.
