Het programma begint met de documentaire Muses waarin de toeschouwer duikt in de wereld van choreograaf Jordy Dik. “Om mij écht te leren kennen, moet je de mensen leren kennen die mijn binnenste raken als geen ander,” zegt Jordy.
Op uitnodiging van Hofesh Shechter kreeg Jordy de kans om in de zomer van 2024 met het gerenommeerde Shechter II van Hofesh Shechter Company uit Londen te werken. Een droom die via het ‘Fast Forward’-programma van Fonds Podiumkunsten uitkomt.“Maar dromen die werkelijkheid worden voor jou alleen, geven geen voldoening.” Daarom nam hij vijf dansers van Compagnie Tiuri mee - een toonaangevend en inclusief danstheater gezelschap dat Nederland de afgelopen jaren heeft betoverd met grensverleggende producties (BNG Bank Dansprijs ’23). Jordy is mede-oprichter en artistiek leider van het gezelschap en gelooft, vertrouwt en waardeert niemand meer dan deze bijzondere dansers. Hij beschouwt hen als zijn Muses. In de gelijknamige documentaire ontvouwt zich een nieuwe en spannende wereld in Londen, waar het gezelschap voor het eerst zo lang van huis is, nieuwe vriendschappen smeedt, inspiratie opdoet, uitdagingen aangaat en vooral ontroerende momenten meemaakt.
Na de documentaire zal de dansfilm A Bird Named Mansour vertoond worden. Dit is de artistieke en filmische uitkomst van de tien dagen die beiden gezelschappen samen hebben gedeeld. De film is gebaseerd op de verontrustende realiteit van de wereld van vandaag—een wereld vol chaos, waar talloze kinderen gedwongen worden hun huis te ontvluchten op zoek naar veiligheid. De film weerspiegelt rechtstreeks de keuzes van wereldleiders, die te vaak voor geweld kiezen in plaats van levens te redden, en vormt zo een scherpe kritiek op het huidige mondiale landschap.
Geïnspireerd door vogels—symbolen van vrijheid en het verlangen om naar een vreedzame toekomst te vliegen—spreekt de film tot de eenvoudige, maar diepgaande wens om samen in harmonie te leven. In de kern is A Bird Named Mansour zowel een spiegel van onze tijd als een oproep tot verandering en herinnert het ons eraan dat niemand van ons echt vrij kan zijn totdat vrijheid voor iedereen geldt.
Na de vertoning zijn choreograaf Jordy Dik en de dansers van Compagnie Tiuri aanwezig voor een nagesprek.
The program begins with the documentary Muses, in which the spectator follows the work of choreographer Jordy Dik through his dancers and muses. “To really get to know me, you have to get to know the people who can move my inside like no other,” says Jordy.
At the invitation of Hofesh Shechter, Jordy was given the opportunity to work with the renowned Shechter II from the Hofesh Shechter Company in London during the summer of 2024. A dream come true through the ‘Fast Forward’ program of the Performing Arts Fund NL. “But dreams that become reality just for you bring no satisfaction.” That’s why he brought five dancers from Compagnie Tiuri – a leading and inclusive dance theater company that has enchanted the Netherlands in recent years with groundbreaking productions (BNG Bank Dance Prize ’23).
Jordy is a co-founder and artistic leader of the company, and there is no one he believes in, trusts, and values more than these exceptional dancers. He considers them his Muses. In the eponymous documentary, a new and exciting world unfolds in London, where the company is away from home for the first time for such an extended period. They forge new friendships, find inspiration, face challenges, and, above all, experience moving moments.
After the documentary, the dance film A Bird Named Mansour will be shown. This is the artistic and cinematic result of the ten days both companies shared together. A Bird Named Mansour is grounded in the unsettling reality of today’s world—a world filled with chaos, where countless children are forced to flee their homes in search of safety. It directly reflects on the choices of world leaders who too often opt for violence instead of saving lives, a harsh commentary on our current global landscape.
Inspired by birds—symbols of freedom and the yearning to fly towards a peaceful future—the film speaks to the simple yet profound desire to live together in harmony. At its core, A Bird Named Mansour serves as both a mirror to our times and a call for change, reminding us that none of us can truly be free until freedom belongs to all.
After the screening, choreographer Jordy Dik and the dancers from Compagnie Tiuri will be present for a talk.
