With vulnerability and incredible courage, a Brazilian girl confronts the system that oppresses her and all women.
In the depths of the Amazon rainforest, 13-year-old Tielle grows up with dreams inspired by her older sister’s escape. As she matures, the illusions she clings to begin to crumble, revealing a world of deep-rooted exploitation and abuse. Determined to protect her younger sister and reshape their future, she dares to challenge the forces that bind the women in her community, in a poignant exploration of resilience and resistance.
After the screening, Lydia Stavraki and Martín Hernán Di Marco will be present for a Q&A. Lydia is a crossover musician and graduate in psychology and Latin Jazz music. She was also part of the National Jeugd Jazz Orkest and leads her own group, blending Latin and Greek Jazz Music. Martín is an Assistant Professor in Violence and Violence Prevention at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs at Leiden University. He is also the co-founder of the Red Interamericana Antifemicidio and the Secretary of the Working Group on Violence and Society of the International Sociology Association. He specialises in understanding violence perpetration from a biographical lens, focusing on aggressors, including femicide in Latin America.
Diep in de Amazone groeit de 13-jarige Tielle op met dromen die geïnspireerd zijn door de ontsnapping van haar oudere zus. Naarmate ze ouder wordt, beginnen de illusies waaraan ze zich vastklampt af te brokkelen en onthult zich een wereld van diepgewortelde uitbuiting en misbruik. Vastbesloten om haar jongere zus te beschermen en hun toekomst te veranderen, durft ze de machten uit te dagen die de vrouwen in haar gemeenschap onderdrukken, in een aangrijpend onderzoek naar veerkracht en verzet.
Na de vertoning zullen Lydia Stavraki en Martín Hernán Di Marco aanwezig zijn voor een Q&A. Lydia is een crossover musicus en afgestudeerd in psychologie en Latin Jazz muziek. Ze maakte ook deel uit van het Nationaal Jeugd Jazz Orkest en leidt haar eigen groep, een mix van Latin en Griekse Jazzmuziek. Martín is universitair docent in Geweld en Geweldpreventie aan het Institute of Security and Global Affairs van de Universiteit Leiden. Hij is ook medeoprichter van het Red Interamericana Antifemicidio en secretaris van de Werkgroep Geweld en Samenleving van de International Sociology Association. Hij is gespecialiseerd in het onderzoeken van geweldpleging vanuit een biografische lens, waarbij hij zich richt op agressors, waaronder vrouwenmoorden in Latijns-Amerika.

With the On Tour program, Movies that Matter organizes screenings with in-depth programmes in The Netherlands and online. They do this in collaboration with a diverse array of organisations and companies. Among other things, the organization also organises the annual Movies that Matter Festival in The Hague.
