Daft Punk & Leiji Matsumoto: Interstella 5555
Interstella 5555: The Story of the Secret Star System is a visually stunning, hour-long animated film by Daft Punk and Leiji Matsumoto, following four alien musicians kidnapped and forced into a soulless pop act, with iconic Daft Punk music videos playing afterward.
Originally released in May 2003, Daft Punk & Leiji Matsumoto’s Interstella 5555: The story of the secret star system was written by Thomas Bangalter, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Cédric Hervet, directed by Kazuhisa Takenouchi and supervised by the legendary Leiji Matsumoto.
Interstella 5555 follows four talented alien musicians who are kidnapped by a sinister record producer. He disguises them as humans and reprograms them to forget their true identities, forcing them to perform as The Crescendolls, a soulless corporate pop act.
The hour-long film was cut into music videos to accompany Daft Punk’s album Discovery, and is rare to see in its original form in cinemas.
The film will be immediately followed by a curated selection of iconic Daft Punk videos from directors including Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry, Seb Janiak, Roman Coppola, and Warren Fu.
