“Betrayal” (“Grenzeloos verraad”)  tells the story of the German-Dutch Ludwig Mengelberg, an officer in the German army who holds the nickname of 'Der Fliegende Holländer'. When he is transferred to the Netherlands, he decides to help a Dutch farm family covering up people in hiding. In doing so, he commits high treason against his own men.

“Betrayal” (“Grenzeloos verraad”)  tells the story of the German-Dutch Ludwig Mengelberg, an officer in the German army who holds the nickname of 'Der Fliegende Holländer'. Mengelberg finds it increasingly difficult to cope with the horrors of the war and when his wife and daughter are killed in a bombing, he makes a drastic decision. When he is transferred to the Netherlands, he decides to help a Dutch farm family covering up people in hiding. In doing so, he commits high treason against his own men. When the SS becomes suspicious and the resistance advances, Mengelberg not only puts his own life in danger, but also those of the people he aims to help.

The International Film Festival The Hague

The International Film Festival The Hague is gearing up for its 5th edition, set to take place at Filmhuis Den Haag and Het Koorenhuis from the 10th to the 12th of November in 2023. 

Against the backdrop of these revered venues, the festival becomes a captivating tapestry of global storytelling, each frame woven with the theme "People and Perspectives." Filmhuis Den Haag and Het Koorenhuis become the epicenter of a kaleidoscope of narratives that mirror the rich diversity of our shared human experience, where storytelling transcends borders, and the universal language of film unites diverse voices in a harmonious celebration of culture and creativity.

This year’s festival will serve as a global platform for meaningful storytelling, featuring carefully curated films hailing from over 80 countries. These films will delve into contemporary topics that resonate not only with the Dutch society but also with audiences worldwide. Themes such as the enduring repercussions of war, the pressing issue of mental health challenges – especially among the younger generation – and explorations of heritage will be featured.

The festival will also be graced by the presence of Dirk Gunther Mohr, a celebrated Dutch actor. Audiences will have the privilege of getting a chance to meet the actor in person.
