SAVE THE DATE: DECEMBER 13-14, 2024
What is ROOTS?
This december, we will host the seventh edition of the ROOTS Film Festival: a gift from Filmhuis to The Hague and its residents. Everyone is welcome at this film event where filmmakers from The Hague take center stage, meet each other, and engage with the audience. It’s a unique opportunity for the audience to discover the talent of local filmmakers and experience the creativity thriving in their city.
The ROOTS Film Festival was initiated by Filmhuis Den Haag to provide a platform (and big screen) for filmmakers from The Hague. It also aims to foster connections among local filmmakers and contribute to a vibrant and positive film culture in the city.

Towards a Thriving Creators’ Climate in The Hague
How can the municipality of The Hague and the sector further stimulate the film and media climate in The Hague?
To explore this question, the municipality, in collaboration with BMC, Filmhuis Den Haag, wysiwyg, Qissa, Movies that Matter, and Flora Filmtheater, conducted a survey to better understand the needs and desires of The Hague’s film and media creators. Where do their priorities lie, and how can collaboration and mutual support be improved? Over the past months, the sector has been in active dialogue, with many creators sharing their insights through the survey.
This process follows a similar initiative undertaken in Rotterdam, led by Filmplatform Rotterdam. Representatives from Filmplatform Rotterdam will also join this session to share their experiences, the steps they took, and the lessons learned in their journey to strengthen the creative community in their city.
The presentation will be moderated by Nora Akachar, a filmmaker, actress, and theatermaker from The Hague.
The session will take place on Saturday, December 14, in Screening Room 6 at Filmhuis Den Haag and will last approximately an hour. During and after the presentation, there will be time for questions and networking.
